June 26 (THEWILL) — Residents of Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states will experience a planned four-hour electricity outage on Sunday, June 28, as the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) carries out a scheduled maintenance exercise to strengthen the national power grid.
In a press statement issued on Friday, NISO said the outage would last from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and is necessary to facilitate essential maintenance works by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at the 330kV Kumbotso Substation.
According to the system operator, the maintenance forms part of ongoing efforts to improve the reliability and transmission capacity of the national electricity network.
NISO explained that the upgrade is a critical investment designed to reinforce the national grid, boost the network’s transmission capability and enhance the overall resilience of Nigeria’s power system.
The agency noted that electricity supply would be temporarily interrupted across Kano, Jigawa and Katsina throughout the maintenance period, urging residents and businesses in the affected states to make adequate arrangements ahead of the outage.
It expressed optimism that the work would ultimately improve electricity supply to customers across the region by increasing the efficiency and stability of the transmission network.
“The upgrade is a critical investment that would strengthen the national grid and enhance the transmission capacity of the network, thereby improving electricity supply to customers in the region and the overall resilience of Nigeria’s power system,” the statement read.
NISO apologised for the inconvenience the temporary blackout may cause and appealed to electricity consumers for patience, understanding and cooperation while the maintenance work is being carried out.
