January 27, (THEWILL) – The Kano State Police Command has averted a planned terror attack, recovering explosives and dangerous weapons intended for use during the recently concluded National Tijjaniyya Maulud event in the state.
Speaking at a press briefing in Kano on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Salman Garba, revealed that the explosives were discovered in Tokarawa village, Gezawa Local Government Area.
Garba said the swift intervention of the police, working in collaboration with sister security agencies, foiled the attack, ensuring the safety of residents and participants at the religious event.
“Our proactive measures underscore our commitment to the security and safety of Kano residents and visitors. Investigations are already underway to identify and apprehend those behind this nefarious plot,” Garba stated.
In a related development, the commissioner disclosed the arrest of three suspects linked to the kidnapping and killing of a 64-year-old resident of Janbulo Quarters, Kano, Atiku Mu’azu.
The suspects—Abubakar Hassan, also known as “Captain,” Adamu Abubakar Adam, and Alhaji Hamisu, alias “Bakin Bross”—were apprehended following an intelligence-driven operation.
Garba also detailed a separate incident in Sabuwar Unguwar Garo, Kabo Local Government Area, where armed men invaded the residence of Alhaji Auwalu.
The assailants reportedly robbed him of N8 million and abducted his 16-year-old daughter, Zainab Aliyu.
The police, he said, have launched a manhunt to rescue the victim and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile, 17 suspected armed robbers were arrested in connection with a spate of robberies in Hotoro and Kawo Quarters. The suspects allegedly broke into shops, vandalized vehicles, and attacked innocent residents.
“Three additional armed robbery suspects were also apprehended for attacking two individuals and stealing 200 mobile phones at Yankatsari Quarters,” Garba added.
The commissioner urged residents of Kano to remain vigilant and provide the police with actionable intelligence to prevent criminal activities and future threats.
“Our doors remain open for collaboration with the public. Together, we can make Kano State safer for all,” he concluded.
