August 30, (THEWILL) — Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has thrown his weight behind the eco-tourism initiative spearheaded by Ambassador Wanle Akinboboye, describing the project as one that could transform the state into a centre of peace, unity, food security and sustainable development, not only for Nigeria, but for Africa and the world.

Speaking during a visit to the project site, the Governor stated that his administration would provide all necessary support to ensure the venture’s success, which he noted had already begun to attract significant interest from young people.

“Our young people are talented. I am happy with the briefing you have given to me, and from what has been communicated to about 400 young people who have already come into this place today. This shows that our youths are eager; they are ready to be engaged. And somebody is offering himself here.”

The Governor described Akinboboye as a visionary who was giving expression to the aspirations of the younger generation by providing them with an opportunity to participate in a project that combines tourism, culture, and environmental sustainability.

“He is speaking the voice and the mind of our people and representing others. We will make sure that we give all the necessary support so that we can start this tourism process and eco-tourism destination here”, Kefas added.

The Governor called on residents of the state to rally behind the initiative, urging them to cooperate with Akinboboye to ensure its long-term success.

“Please make sure you cooperate with him so that he will not be frustrated, and at the end of it all, I am sure everybody is going to enjoy what is here. We have the land, the resources, and the people. All we need is the right vision and leadership, which we presently have today.”

Observers say the Governor’s endorsement provides a major boost to Akinboboye’s ambitious plan, which has been widely touted as a model for repositioning Nigeria’s tourism industry through eco-friendly development. The project aims to not only showcase Taraba’s natural beauty and cultural heritage but also create jobs, stimulate agriculture, and promote peace-building in communities.

Akinboboye, a seasoned tourism developer and founder of La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort in Lagos, has long advocated for tourism as a driver of national development. His Taraba eco-tourism initiative, according to insiders, is designed as a multi-purpose hub where hospitality, culture, and agriculture intersect to create sustainable livelihoods.

Governor Kefas’ remarks highlight his government’s recognition of tourism as a catalyst for economic diversification, especially in a state blessed with vast natural endowments. Taraba is known for its scenic landscapes, mountains, rivers, and cultural festivals — assets that experts say have remained underutilised for decades.

With the Governor’s promise of full backing, stakeholders believe the initiative could become a game-changer in redefining Taraba’s place in Nigeria’s tourism map.
