November 07, (THEWILL) – The kidnapped Rector of Immaculate Conception Seminary in Ivhianokpodi, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, Rev. Father Thomas Oyode, has been freed.
Oyode was abducted by gunmen on October 27, during an attack on the seminary.
Following the abduction, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N200 million for his release.
While ransom negotiations were underway, security agencies intensified efforts to track the priest’s whereabouts.
A combination of ground intelligence and aerial surveillance over the forest in Kogi State, where he was being held, put pressure on the kidnappers.
Faced with mounting pressure, the abductors abandoned their victims and fled.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, Benin, AIG Arungwa Nwazue, confirmed the rescue of the cleric, praising the efforts of the security forces in ensuring his safe return.
