Nigerian-Canadian Kika Otiono has done it again, as she bags Carleton University Senate Medal for “excellent overall standing while a student at the University.” Young Otiono graduated with a CGPA of 11.80 out of 12, also described in other academic parlance as a First Class honours.
21-year-old Kika Otiono, currently studying medicine at McMaster University, received a third-year undergraduate offer of admission to the prestigious Michael G. De Groote School of Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario in 2019.
The Carleton University Senate Medal is one of her many wins. As a Grade 12 student in 2016, Kika emerged as one of the twenty recipients of Canada’s most prestigious rewards for academic excellence, and community leadership. She won an undergraduate scholarship valued at seventy thousand dollars from TD Bank in Canada.
Ms Otiono was the toast of the 2016 Black History Month launch in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. Then a student of Colonel By Secondary school, Kika was the recipient of the 2016 Black History Ottawa Community Builder Award (Youth leadership category), for her volunteer work as Youth Editor of a magazine, (Black Ottawa Scene).
She was also the overall winner of the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) 2016 Black History Month essay competition in Canada. Ms Kika Otiono is the daughter of Carleton University’s Professor Nduka Otiono and his wife, Onyisi Otiono, a financial advisor.
