May 15, (THEWILL) – A governorship aspirant of the Action Alliance in Ogun State, Dr Samuel Adeyemi, has condemned the gruesome murder of the student of Federal College of Education, Deborah Samuel, in Sokoto State
Recall that Deborah was dragged, stoned, flogged and set ablaze by some male Muslim students of Shehu Shagari Federal College of Education for allegedly insulting Prophet Mohammed.
Reacting, Adeyemi described the incident perpetrated by those he described as ‘mob of religious zealots and fanatic’ as unacceptable, insisting that the culprits must not go unpunished
He called on the federal government and well meaning Nigerians to make sure that the killers of the second year Christian student face the full wrath of the law to stop future recurrences.
Adeyemi, who cited an instance where a Christian lady was preaching the gospel few years ago in the early hours of the morning on the street of Abuja with her loud speaker, was attacked and killed and up till this moment, her killers had not been arrested.
He, therefore, urged FG to put in place, punitive measures against killing in the name of religion, in order to put an end to bloodletting in the country.
Adeyemi said, “The death of Deborah Samuel must not be in vain. All perpetrators must be brought to Justice and an end brought to this kind of mindless killing.
“The dastardly act of murder committed by a mob of religious zealots and fanatics, masquerading as students of the Federal College of Education, Sokoto, is very sad and unacceptable.
“The dehumanising torture, death and burning of Miss Deborah Samuel, a second year student of the institution some days ago, resulting from a comment made on a departmental WhatsApp template about Jesus being responsible for her outstanding performance in her examination, must be condemned by all sane homo sapiens irrespective of religious affiliation.
“This kind of incidence continues to happen because no appropriate punitive measures were taken against those that committed same kind of atrocity in the past. There is too much bloodletting in this country.
“It was in Abuja few years ago where a lady preaching the gospel early in the morning with her loud speaker was attacked and killed. The question is “were the assailants arrested? Were they prosecuted? Have they been served appropriate punitive sentences?
“I commiserate with her immediate and extended family at this hour of intense grief and pray that the Almighty will grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss”, he added.
