April 21, (THEWILL) — The Labour Party (LP) has announced April 28 as the date for its much-anticipated national convention, scheduled to be held in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.
The party also formally released the list of chairmen and members of its electoral sub-committees tasked with overseeing the forthcoming congresses across all states of the federation.
A statement issued on Tuesday by Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Interim National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, disclosed that the committees comprising seasoned and respected party members have been carefully constituted to ensure credible, transparent, and orderly conduct of the congresses nationwide.
The development follows the earlier release of the party’s congress timetable, which outlines ward congresses for April 23, local government congresses for April 24, and state congresses slated for April 26.
The party named the following individuals as chairmen of the electoral sub-committees across the states: Iheanacho Obioma (Abia); Francis Kim (Adamawa); Ekong Solomon (Akwa Ibom); Chief Tony Asuoha (Anambra); Malam Mustapha Adamu (Bauchi); Beredugo Ebimonyo (Bayelsa) and Chief John Ochoga (Benue); Urom Iyang (Cross River); Chuks Onitsha (Delta); Chief Mitchell Nwabueze (Ebonyi); Dr Saliu Edogiawerie (Edo); Usman Mohammed (Niger); Owolabi Ezekiel (Ogun); Charles Afolabi (Ondo); Balogun Ibrahim (Osun); Babatunde Yusuf (Oyo); Fakorede Matthew (Ekiti) and Dr David Ogba (Enugu).
Others include Adoga Knaabayi (Gombe); Chinagorom Nwankpa (Imo); Mustapha Garba (Jigawa); Dr Emmanuel Barau (Kaduna); Kabiru Said (Kano); Pastor Ishaku Izang (Plateau); Amaobi Ogah (Rivers); Prof. Muhamuda Muhammad (Sokoto); Jesse Williams (Taraba); Mukhtar Hassan (Yobe), and Haila Baja (Zamfara).
Additional appointments are Ismail Bello (Katsina); Muh’d (Kebbi); Samuel Ajare (Kogi); Bodunde Adebayo (Kwara); Chukwuemeka Ogbanna (Lagos); Dr Muttaqa Yushau (Nasarawa), and Rose Uba-Anarah (FCT).
Usman charged committee members to execute their responsibilities with the highest standards of fairness, transparency, and integrity. She emphasised the importance of upholding the party’s core principles of equal opportunity and social justice throughout the congress process.
She further urged diligence and unwavering commitment, stressing that the credibility of the party must remain paramount at every stage of the exercise.
The statement assured party members and stakeholders that all necessary logistics and arrangements have been put in place to guarantee a smooth, successful, and hitch-free convention in Umuahia.
