March 30, (THEWILL) – Some staff of Chrisland School, Opebi, Ikeja, have been arraigned before a State High Court, in Lagos, on a two-count charge of manslaughter and negligence.
The defendants, Chrisland School and four staff, are being arraigned over the death of one of the school’s pupils, Whitney Adeniran.
12-year-old Adeniran, was reported dead on February 9, after she allegedly slumped during the school Inter House Sports competition at Agege stadium in Lagos.
While an autopsy report by the Lagos State Government indicated Whitney Adeniran died of electrocution and asphyxia, the State Government said it would prosecute the school for manslaughter and negligence.
However, the principal, Belinda Amao and three other staff including Ademoye Adewale, Kuku Fatai, Mrs Nwatu Ugochi Victoria and Chrisland School Limited, were on Thursday, arraigned before Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja.
The defendants were arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on involuntary manslaughter, reckless and negligent acts.
