September 22, (THEWILL) — The Lagos State Government has ordered courier and delivery service providers to ensure their riders wear reflective jackets and visibility tapes during evening and night operations.
A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, said the directive, which takes immediate effect, is aimed at reducing accidents involving dispatch riders.
Musa emphasised that all riders operating between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. must comply, while motorcycles and bicycles used for deliveries must also be fitted with reflective markers.
“Enforcement of the policy will be handled by agencies such as LASTMA and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS)”, Musa added.
Meanwhile, Glovo Nigeria, one of the country’s leading delivery companies, has already pledged compliance, confirming it is procuring 3,000 reflective vests to distribute to its riders free of charge.
