November 19, (THEWILL) — The Lagos State Government has again adjusted the timeline for the commencement of major rehabilitation works on the Lekki–Ajah corridor, extending preliminary works and delaying full construction activity.
This development follows an earlier announcement made by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on November 12, 2025, in which he disclosed that extensive rehabilitation of the Lekki–Ajahway would begin soon. At the time, the governor emphasised the urgency of addressing road deterioration, traffic bottlenecks, and drainage issues across the corridor—one of the city’s fastest-growing residential and commercial belts.
The 12th November briefing created significant public expectation, with the government outlining plans for phased construction, controlled diversions, and increased deployment of traffic officers to manage movement during the repairs.
However, in a fresh update issued on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the state government, through the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced that the rehabilitation would no longer commence as earlier scheduled. Instead, only preparatory works such as drainage clearing, geotechnical testing, and mobilisation of materials will continue until the end of November.
The revised commencement date for full-scale rehabilitation will be communicated later, the Ministry of Transportation said, urging residents and road users to remain patient as logistical adjustments are finalised.
Traffic officers will continue to man strategic points along the corridor to ease movement and limit disruptions during the extended preparatory phase.
While the postponement may offer short-term relief to commuters who had anticipated immediate congestion, many remain watchful of the government’s next update, given the corridor’s critical importance to daily movement and commercial activity.
