SAN FRANCISCO, October 07, (THEWILL) – Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has directed security agencies to do all that is necessary to apprehend the killers behind attacks on innocent people in the State

At least six persons, including a traditional ruler, Da Chung Gyang Mwadkwon were on Monday night killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Wereng community of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In a statement on Wednesday by Director of Press & Public Affairs to the Governor, Makut Simon Macham who expressed fury over the killings described recent attacks as worrisome and unacceptable.

While sympathizing with families of the victims and survivors, Lalong asked security agencies to redouble their efforts in apprehending the attackers.

He said “we will not allow these ugly incidences to return where helpless and innocent people are murdered in cold blood for no reason. These killers must be fished out at whatever cost and brought to justice. I urge the people to cooperate with the security agencies by providing useful information that will facilitate the arrest of the attackers.”

The Governor urged citizens of the State to increase vigilance particularly in intelligence gathering and information sharing through the traditional rulers and other early warning systems of Operation Rainbow.

A lawmaker representing Riyom Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Dantong said the attack took place on Monday night by suspected Fulani herdsmen while the villagers were asleep. He added that three persons, who were injured during the attack, were receiving treatment at Vom Christian Hospital.

Also, the Chairman of Riyom LGA, Mr. Mafeng Gwalson who spoke on the sad incident, described it as ugly and barbaric and called on the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators.

Mwadkwon, who was the acting Village Head of Wereng, was awaiting coronation before he was killed by the assailants.
