December 25, (THEWILL) – Ayobami Sodiq, popularly known as Spending, a close associate of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, has refuted claims of concealing information regarding the circumstances surrounding the artist’s death.
In a detailed statement shared on his social media platforms, Sodiq clarified discrepancies in his earlier accounts of events on the day Mohbad passed away.
He admitted that his initial claim of seeing the singer at 9 pm was inaccurate, explaining that emotional trauma and anxiety clouded his recollection.
“I would like to clarify that the last time I saw Mohbad alive was between 11 am and 12 pm on the day he passed,” Sodiq wrote.
He further explained that his earlier statement stemmed from mental distress caused by his wrongful detention and accusations of being present at Mohbad’s residence on the day of his death.
Sodiq revealed that the misunderstanding began during a TikTok livestream in February 2024, hosted by Westo, where he thanked supporters who donated towards his release from detention.
When asked about his last interaction with Mohbad, he mistakenly said it was at 9 pm, a timing he now acknowledges as inaccurate.
“I wasn’t in the right frame of mind when Westo asked the question,” he stated, adding, “I left Mohbad’s house between 3 pm and 4 pm on September 11, 2023, which aligns with the testimony I gave at the coroner’s inquest.”
Sodiq also addressed rumors of discussions about Mohbad’s death with social media influencers while in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti.
He dismissed these claims, stating he only spoke with Westo and his assistant, and denied the existence of any audio recordings or text messages alleging otherwise.
“I never intended to deceive or withhold information. My earlier statements were a result of the psychological and emotional strain I was under,” Sodiq explained, while apologizing for any confusion caused by his initial account.
Sodiq expressed continued grief over Mohbad’s death and renewed his call for justice.
“Mohbad’s untimely passing is still painful, and I am still trying to recover from the trauma. I pray that Mohbad gets the justice he deserves, and I urge his killers to be brought to book,” he concluded.
