January 15, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to shun violence and divisive tendencies, urging unity and peaceful coexistence for a prosperous nation.

The President made this appeal in a heartfelt message commemorating the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, celebrated annually on January 15 to honor the nation’s fallen heroes.

Organisedby the Ministry of Defence, the event pays tribute to military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice during the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, international peacekeeping missions, and internal security operations.

In a series of posts shared via his official X handle, Tinubu urged citizens to support officers, veterans, and the families of fallen heroes, stressing that their welfare must remain a collective priority.

“Today, we honor the courage and sacrifices of our gallant Armed Forces who selflessly gave their lives to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensure our peaceful coexistence,” the President stated.

He continued, “The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is a solemn occasion to pay tribute to our ex-servicemen and women who risked everything for the peace and unity of our nation and the world at large.

“As we mark this day, I call on all Nigerians to reciprocate their sacrifices by supporting our officers, veterans, and the families of our fallen heroes. Their welfare and well-being must remain a priority for us all.”

Tinubu also noted the need for unity, urging citizens to embrace peace and reject all forms of divisiveness.

He said, “Our nation is in dire need of peace, and so is the world. Let us remember that people laid down their lives, and many continue to do so, to guarantee our peaceful coexistence.

“Therefore, I urge all Nigerians to eschew violence and divisive tendencies. Let us unite as ambassadors of peace and build a future of hope, optimism, and unity. Together, we can create a nation where peace reigns supreme.”

The President reassured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to equipping the armed forces with modern weapons and fostering synergy among security agencies to enhance proactive operations.
