United States President Donald Trump has again escalated his rhetoric against Iran, demanding that Tehran either negotiate a deal with Washington or face what he described as “total surrender”.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump, who claimed Iran’s leaders had privately sought talks with the United States but publicly insisted that no negotiations were taking place, accused the Iranian leadership of pursuing a deceptive diplomatic strategy.
“Iranian Leadership is unbelievably duplicitous”, Trump wrote, alleging that Iranian officials had requested a meeting while openly declaring they were only dealing with Oman.
The U.S. President further asserted that “nothing will get through to Iran, unless a Deal, or Total Surrender, is accomplished,” before reiterating one of the central pillars of his foreign policy: “IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON.”
The remarks represent one of Trump’s strongest public warnings to Tehran in recent months and come amid renewed diplomatic manoeuvring and heightened security concerns across the Middle East.
In his statement, Trump accused Iran of sending contradictory signals by allegedly pursuing private diplomatic contacts while publicly dismissing negotiations.
He also dismissed Tehran’s repeated assertions regarding the strategic Strait of Hormuz, claiming the vital shipping route is effectively secured by the United States Navy and that Iran’s public statements about controlling the waterway were misleading.
Trump maintained that Washington remains prepared to resolve the dispute through diplomacy but insisted any agreement must permanently prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Iran Rejects Trump’s Claims
Iranian authorities swiftly dismissed Trump’s allegations, insisting that no direct negotiations with the United States are taking place.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said contacts involving Oman were focused solely on maritime security and efforts to ensure the safe movement of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, not on political negotiations with Washington.
Tehran also rejected Trump’s claim that it had secretly sought meetings with U.S. officials, maintaining that its public position on the absence of direct talks remains unchanged.
The conflicting narratives have once again exposed the deep mistrust that continues to define relations between the two countries, despite repeated diplomatic efforts by regional mediators.
