May 06, (THEWILL) — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a forceful political counter-offensive aligned with the influence of the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde-backed bloc, has launched a scathing rebuke of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
It described his recent media outing as a loud but diminishing attempt to remain relevant within a shifting internal power structure, insisting bluntly that his “influence is fading fast” and urging him to “stop the noise.”
In a statement titled “Ignore Wike’s Political Swan Song,” signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, Ini Ememobong, the PDP accused Wike of staging what it called a politically charged media convergence marked by “reckless rhetoric, moral emptiness, and post-loss political trauma.”
The party said Nigerians were exposed to what it described as an “unsolicited overdosage of political rascality,” alleging that the Minister used the platform to malign respected Nigerians while engaging in what it termed “crass opportunism” and emotional political theatrics.
The PDP maintained that Wike’s statements did not merit a direct response, insisting that his remarks amounted to “sound and fury signifying nothing,” and should be treated as the “political swan song of a declining voice within the system.”
It argued that the minister’s recent outbursts are linked to internal party developments, particularly the commencement of nomination sales and preparations for primaries leading to a national convention, which it said are being conducted in line with democratic principles and constitutional procedures.
According to the statement, these processes demonstrate that the party is moving forward with structured internal reforms, regardless of individual ambitions or opposition to ongoing organisational decisions.
The PDP also dismissed allegations attributed to Wike regarding its financial operations, insisting that the party continues to operate its official accounts transparently and within established financial frameworks.
It advised individuals who feel defamed by the Minister’s public comments to seek legal redress, stressing that no political actor is above the law and that accountability remains a core principle of democratic engagement.
On judicial issues referenced in the wider political discourse, the party said it was awaiting Certified True Copies of relevant court judgments, while challenging Wike to disclose full details of cross-appeals involving his associates, urging transparency in public commentary on legal matters.
Reaffirming its position, the PDP said attempts to distort facts or intimidate political stakeholders would not succeed, maintaining that truth ultimately outlives political propaganda.
It added that political relevance is not sustained through media aggression but through structure, credibility, and sustained engagement, insisting that “noise cannot substitute influence.”
THEWILL earlier reported that Wike, on Wednesday escalated tensions within the PDP, issuing stern warnings against the Tanimu Turaki-led caretaker National Working Committee.
Speaking during his monthly media chat with journalists in Abuja, Wike warned that any bank that facilitates the opening of accounts for the sale of PDP nomination forms by the Turaki-led group would face unspecified consequences.
He also threatened enforcement action against any property in Abuja being used as an alternative headquarters of the faction.
“I dare them, let me see an office you will name PDP national secretariat… If you are saying that you want to sell form, to whom? You will submit it where? Is that not fraud?” Wike said, insisting that such actions amounted to deception and illegality.
He maintained that the legitimate national secretariat of the PDP remains at Wadata House, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, warning Nigerians against what he described as attempts to mislead the public through parallel party structures.
