May 20, (THEWILL) – Police in Ogun State have arrested a 36-year-old man, Kingsley Essien, for allegedly trafficking his wife to Mali for prostitution and selling his two-year-old son for N600,000.
Essien equally sold his wife into prostitution for N1,400,000 to a female human trafficker to Mali.
The suspect was arrested when his wife, Bright Essien lodged a complain at Agbara divisional headquarters, that her husband sold her into prostitution to Mali under the pretence of securing a job for her.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Thursday.
Oyeyemi said that according to the suspect’s wife, sometime in October 2021, her hubby informed her of securing a job for her in Mali, where he claimed to have assisted many people for greener pastures.
The Police PRO explained that the woman did not suspect any foul play from her husband until she got to Bamako in Mali, only to discover that she had been sold into prostitution.
He explained further that the mother of one, after being forced into prostitution, found her way to the Nigerian embassy in Mali, where she was assisted back to the country.
Oyeyemi said upon the report, the DPO Agbara division, SP Abiodun Salau, detailed his detectives to go after the suspect, and he was eventually arrested.
He stated that the suspect on interrogation, confessed to committing the crime, adding that he sold their two-year-old son to somebody at the rate of N600,000.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspect to anti human trafficking and child labour unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.
The CP also ordered that the buyer of the son must be traced and arrested in order to recover the stolen child.
