Market Slips As Losers Outnumber Gainers In Midweek Trading

January 28, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian equities market closed lower on Wednesday, as selling pressure outweighed buying interest across several stocks.

The market capitalization opened at N106.088 and declined to N105.736 at the close of trading, while the NGX All-Share Index (ASI) fell from 165,713.82 to 165,164.38.

Market breadth was negative, with 32 gainers against 38 losers, reflecting a cautious trading session and profit-taking in some previously advancing stocks.

The stocks leading the gainers include:

DEAPCAP 9.97 percent (N8.63 to N9.49).

UHOMREIT 9.97 percent (N86.25 to N94.85).

TANTALIZER rose 9.92 percent (from N3.53 to N3.88).

SKYAVN advanced by 9.91 percent (N117.00 to N128.60).

MORISON gained 9.90 percent (grew from N9.09 to N9.99).

On the other side:

RTBRISCOE – 9.97 percent (N7.22 to N6.50).

MAYBAKER declined by -9.96 percent (N39.15 to N35.25).

IKEJAHOTEL decreased by -9.92 percent (from N35.80 to N32.25).

LIVINGTRUST fell by -9.90 percent (N5.15 to N4.64).

ETRANZACT dipped by -9.16 percent (N19.10 to N17.35).

Meanwhile, several heavyweight stocks closed unchanged, including Dangote Cement, Lafarge Africa, Seplat Energy, Okomu Oil Palm, and Custodian Investment, helping to limit deeper losses in the broader market.

Overall, the midweek session reflected mixed investor sentiment, with selective buying in a few stocks offset by notable declines across others.
