June 20, (THEWILL) – Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has commissioned a state-of-the-art Vision Centre at the Agency’s National Headquarters Annex in Abuja, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.
The facility is the outcome of a strategic partnership between NDLEA, the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), and the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation.
It is designed to deliver comprehensive, affordable, and high-quality eye care services to both NDLEA personnel and the general public.
Speaking at the brief ceremony, Marwa expressed appreciation to the NOA and its partners for what he described as a vital and timely collaboration.
“We are here with every sense of fulfilment and happiness to commission this Vision Centre,” he said, highlighting the importance of vision health for overall wellbeing and productivity.
Drawing from personal experience, Marwa urged officers and staff of the agency to make eye care a regular part of their health routine.
He also praised the dedication of the optometrists managing the centre, commending their pioneering service and commitment.
“We appreciate you for accepting to serve in this capacity, even in uncharted territory. This centre is a worthy addition to our ongoing initiatives aimed at improving staff wellbeing,” he said.
In his remarks, NOA President, Dr. Chimeziri Anderson, described the commissioning as the result of a fruitful collaboration with NDLEA and the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation.
He recalled that the concept was born during a meeting in Lagos and lauded the NDLEA’s leadership for quickly adopting the vision.
“This Vision Centre is among a few established within government institutions and serves as a model for sustainable eye care delivery.
“With support from our partners in France and Dubai, we are equipping it with world-class tools and expertise to ensure NDLEA personnel and their families have access to premium eye care,” Dr. Anderson said.
Also speaking, NDLEA’s Director of Medical Services, Dr. Audu Okpe, described the project as another milestone in the agency’s expanding welfare agenda under Marwa’s leadership.
“This initiative also reflects a broader commitment to fostering public health partnerships between security institutions and professional medical bodies in Nigeria,” he noted.
