February 16, (THEWILL) – Kylian Mbappe has opened up about his hamstring injury, stating that he should not have played in Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
THEWILL recalls that Mbappe went down with the injury during the win over Montpellier at the start of February, leading to initial speculation that he would not feature in the UEFA Champions League game against Bayern.
Despite this, the French striker managed to make a quick return to training and was deemed healthy enough to start Tuesday’s match on the bench. He was brought on for the final 30 minutes of the game but was unable to make an impact, seeing his late goal ruled out for offside.
In his post-match comments, Mbappe admitted that he probably should not have rushed himself back into action. He said: “I’m not 100% but I felt good enough to try to help my friends and play a little bit. Basically, I shouldn’t have come back. I tried everything, tried to put everything on my side so as not to have any regrets. I would have liked to play this game [in full]. These are matches that we want to play, for which we work. Watching from the sidelines is very difficult.”
PSG now face an uphill battle to progress in the UCL, but will be hoping for a better outcome in the return leg on March 8, when Mbappe is expected to be fully recovered.
