SAN FRANCISCO, December 17, (THEWILL) – French striking sensation, Kylian Mbappe and strike partner, Moise Kean, were on target for Paris Saint-Germain as the French giants took advantage of the sending off of Andrew Gravillon to beat Lorient 2-0 in Wednesday’s Ligue 1 clash at the Parc des Princes.
Lorient striker, Yoane Wissa, got in behind centre back, Danilo Pereira ,early on but the PSG defender risked everything to block the shot and suffered an injury that forced him off as a result. But, he made sure his keeper, Sergio Rico, made a simple save.
The visitors, who had scored a trio of goals in the preceding game against Nimes last weekend to end a four-game goalless losing run, wasted another good opportunity to break the deadlock when forward, Terem Moffi, raced clear towards goal but shot wide in the 25th minute.
Captain Ander Herrera hit the crossbar late in the first half from a curling shot as the two teams went into the break deadlocked.
Six minutes after the interval and Mbappe opened the scoring to chalk up his 11th League goal of the season and it was a double blow for Lorient. The striker burst at pace beyond right back, Andrew Gravillon, only for him to be brought down by the defender. Gravillon was sent off and Mbappe’s penalty beat keeper Paul Nardi.
Mbappe almost instantly doubled PSG’s lead but fired over the bar after excellent footwork. But, the hosts again carved their opponents open with an hour played, as a tactical team move culminated in Rafinha sending Kean through to shoot past the approaching Nardi.
It could have been three 10 minutes from time but Layvin Kurzawa hit the crossbar at the end of a counter-attack. Lorient did not do enough to muster a response. Substitute attacker Adrian Grbic came closest with an attempt but could only send his shot against the upright late on.
PSG travel to Lille on Sunday in a huge clash at the top of Ligue 1, while Lorient host Rennes on the same day.
