July 13, (THEWILL) — Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio (MMI) has resolved to pursue all lawful and constitutional measures to recover its Ibibio House property in Lagos, while institutionalising a comprehensive leadership handover process to strengthen transparency and continuity in the organisation.
The resolutions were contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the 59th General Assembly of the socio-cultural organisation held on Saturday at its International Secretariat, Sir Udo Udoma House, Uyo.
The Assembly directed that efforts to reclaim the Lagos property should include engagement with the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, the Lagos State House of Assembly and the National Assembly.
Delegates also unanimously approved the adoption of a formal institutional handover process introduced by the outgoing 11th International Executive Council, making it a permanent feature of leadership transition within the organisation.
Under the initiative, every officer is required to prepare a detailed handover report, forming part of the president’s comprehensive administrative handover document. The Assembly said the policy would enhance transparency, accountability, institutional memory and leadership continuity.
The General Assembly reviewed the performance of the outgoing executive led by the 11th International President, Akparawa James Edet, NPOM, and commended the administration for prudent management of resources, transparency and efforts that strengthened the organisation.
It also praised the executive council for transforming the organisation’s physical and administrative structures, establishing the Mboho Hall of Fame, hosting international conventions in Toronto and Berlin, celebrating the organisation’s 20th anniversary in London and conducting what it described as a peaceful, free and credible election that produced the 12th International Executive Council.
The Assembly further applauded the revitalisation of Mboho Unity School, noting that enrolment rose from 204 to 672 pupils and students, while the institution retained its accreditation as a WAEC and NECO examination centre.
On national issues, the Assembly commended the organisation’s advocacy for the rehabilitation of the Calabar–Itu Highway and its defence of Akwa Ibom State’s interest in the dispute over the ownership of the 76 oil wells.
The Assembly also appreciated Governor Umo Eno for his support of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio throughout the tenure of the outgoing executive council and urged members to give full support to the incoming 12th International Executive Council.
It equally congratulated former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, on his 60th birthday and acknowledged his continued support for the organisation.
The General Assembly concluded by reaffirming its commitment to promoting unity, accountability, peace and purposeful service for the advancement of the Ibibio nation.
