March 19, (THEWILL) — Veteran journalist and former presidential candidate, Dele Momodu, has described former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, as “a wasted investment,” while questioning his suitability for a reported ambassadorial appointment to Germany.
In a strongly worded article titled “Femi Fani-Kayode: When Will You Stop Being a Thug?”, Momodu criticised the former minister’s temperament and public conduct, arguing that such traits are incompatible with diplomatic responsibilities.
In the article,the Ovation Magazine publisher drew contrasts between Fani-Kayode’s privileged upbringing and his public persona, describing him as “a classic case of a wasted investment” despite attending elite institutions, including the University of Cambridge.
Hr also referenced Fani-Kayode’s late father, Chief Remilekun Fani-Kayode, a respected legal luminary, noting that he had known the elder statesman long before encountering his son.
“I knew his father… long before I met his querulous, garrulous and cantankerous son,” Momodu wrote, referencing the late legal luminary, Chief Remilekun Fani-Kayode.
He further alleged that repeated interventions by family members and associates have failed to curb what he described as Fani-Kayode’s confrontational disposition.
The criticism follows the appointment of Fani-Kayode by President Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany, a development that has sparked mixed reactions across political and diplomatic circles.
Momodu questioned the propriety of the appointment, stressing that diplomatic roles require restraint, decorum and discipline.
“And this is the man President Bola Tinubu is about to unleash on Germany as an Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for God’s sake,” he wrote.
He also disclosed that Fani-Kayode had long anticipated a political appointment and had previously expressed frustration over delays, while exploring alternative political options.
According to Momodu, the former minister had reached out to allies for support, including possible engagement with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, if his expectations were not met.
The article further portrayed Fani-Kayode as heavily dependent on political power, suggesting he struggles to remain relevant outside the corridors of influence.
“It is such a pity that now that Tinubu has finally looked at his side… he is still busy fighting,” Momodu added, calling for what he described as urgent personal reform.
