November 26, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has pledged to ensure increased access for Bayelsa State students to the National Loan Scheme, aimed at easing the financial burden of higher education.

This commitment was made by the Managing Director of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, represented by Ms. Yemi Caxton, during a meeting with the Bayelsa State Higher Education Students Loan Board led by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Michael Amaegberi, in Abuja.

Caxton highlighted the need for Bayelsa State to intensify efforts in accessing the loan scheme, noting that the state currently lags behind others in uptake.

She commended the Bayelsa State government for establishing BYSHELB and emphasized NELFUND’s readiness to collaborate with the board to facilitate better participation.

She said, “We are prepared to work with BYSHELB to ensure Bayelsans benefit significantly from the national students’ loan scheme,” she said.

“All states are equal stakeholders, and we encourage Bayelsa indigenes to fully utilize this opportunity.”

She further assured that NELFUND would provide technical support to BYSHELB, including access to key platforms such as JAMB and higher institutions’ records, to streamline the identification of genuine students and minimize fraudulent applications.

Amaegberi described the visit as a strategic move to strengthen collaboration and address the financial challenges confronting Bayelsa students in higher education.
