March 22, (THEWILL) – The Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta has called on the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), to focus on restoring peace and order following the recent declaration of emergency rule in the state.
In a statement issued over the weekend, MOSIEND’s National President, Kennedy Tonjo West, emphasized the need for Ibas to engage key stakeholders to ensure governance continuity and provide quality leadership.
“As a seasoned military officer with a strong administrative background, Vice Admiral Ibas must engage all parties, including political actors and the people of Rivers State, in broad consultations, mediation, and reconciliation,” West said.
He urged the administrator to initiate frequent meetings with civil society groups, elder statesmen, youth organizations, and MOSIEND to foster cooperation and rebuild trust among the people.
“This is a time for healing. We must reflect on our actions and work towards reconciliation,” he added.
Addressing the release of previously withheld allocations, West stressed the need for transparency, accountability, and prudent management of the state’s resources, warning that any misstep could damage the administrator’s reputation.
“He must be mindful of financial approvals. This is a political setting, and any wrong move could tarnish a lifetime of good work,” West cautioned.
He also urged Ibas to prioritise economic stability and infrastructural development while calling on Rivers residents to support efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace across the state.
MOSIEND, however, expressed strong opposition to the emergency rule and the suspension of the governor, his deputy, and the state House of Assembly members, describing the move as “hasty, unconstitutional, and undemocratic.”
“Nonetheless, since President Bola Tinubu has made his decision, we expect Admiral Ibas to focus on restoring peace, addressing rising tensions and violence, and ensuring effective governance during this crisis,” West stated.
He assured that MOSIEND would support Ibas in stabilizing the state and creating a conducive atmosphere for the governor and legislators to resume their duties.
“Rivers people are eager for the swift return of their governor, and we will do everything necessary to ensure that happens,” West concluded.
