January 13, (THEWILL) — MultiChoice Nigeria, a subsidiary of Canal+ Group, has announced a major leadership transition with the appointment of Kemi Omotosho as its new Chief Executive Officer, following the retirement of long-serving CEO, John Ugbe.
In a statement issued by the company, Omotosho’s appointment takes effect from January 2026, marking the beginning of a new phase for one of Nigeria’s leading pay-TV and media companies.
Ugbe is retiring after nearly 15 years at the helm, a period during which he guided MultiChoice Nigeria through significant industry disruption and changing consumer behaviour. Under his leadership, the company strengthened its operational foundations, expanded local content offerings and navigated intense competition and technological shifts within the media and entertainment sector.
The company credited Ugbe with building long-term resilience and positioning MultiChoice Nigeria for sustained growth in a rapidly evolving market.
Omotosho brings over 20 years of leadership experience across media, telecommunications and digital businesses in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa. She has held several senior roles within the MultiChoice Group, including Executive Head of Customer Value Management in Nigeria and Group Executive Head of Customer Value Management for Rest of Africa, where she provided functional leadership across more than 50 markets.
Most recently, she served as Regional Director for Southern Africa, overseeing a seven-country portfolio with full profit and loss responsibility.
MultiChoice said Omotosho’s deep understanding of the business, combined with her track record in leading complex organisations, driving disciplined growth and building high-performing teams, positions her well to lead the company’s next phase of development.
Speaking on her appointment, Omotosho described the role as both an honour and a responsibility.
“It is a privilege to be entrusted with the leadership of MultiChoice Nigeria at this important moment. Nigeria remains one of the Group’s most strategic and dynamic markets. I look forward to working with our teams and partners to deepen our relationship with consumers, champion local storytelling and the creative economy, and build a future-ready organisation that delivers sustainable value”, she said.
The company noted that the transition followed a structured and orderly succession process, ensuring continuity and stability as MultiChoice Nigeria enters a new era of leadership.
