November 25, (THEWILL) – An air interdiction executed by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai has neutralised scores of terrorists and destroyed their food depot in Jubillaram, a notorious enclave in the Tumbuns area of the Lake Chad Basin.
This is as police in Katsina State on Sunday foiled a kidnap attempt by bandits who attacked two commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along Magama Jibia road in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
A statement by NAF spokesman, Air Cdre Olusola Akinboyewa, said the airstrikes on the terrorists were executed on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
According to the statement, intelligence had previously linked terrorists in the location to recent attacks, including the assault on troops in Kareto on November 16, 2024.
He said, “In response, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets launched a robust air interdiction mission, destroying identified structures used as storage facilities and neutralising terrorists on-site. Mop-up operations using cannons ensured the complete elimination of fleeing hostile elements.
“The operation’s success was made possible by extensive Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions conducted over several days, confirming the presence of active terrorist structures camouflaged under dense vegetation.
“The destruction of the terrorist enclave, including food storage facilities, severely disrupted their logistical operations, while the killing of a significant number of fighters diminished their capacity to launch future attacks”, he said, adding that the mission demonstrated the NAF’s unwavering commitment to defending the nation and people and supporting surface forces in counterterrorism operations.
Meanwhile, the police on Sunday foiled an attempt by bandits to kidnap passengers of two commercial vehicles in Katsina State.
Spokesperson of the KmState Police Command, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, in a statement on Monday, said, the DPO of Jabia led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel, and rescued fourteen (14) victims.
He said, “On November 24th, 2024, at about 1955 hrs, suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically, attacked two (2) commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, Katsina State, in an attempt to kidnap the occupants.
“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel, successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt, and rescued fourteen (14) victims.
“Two rescued victims suffered gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, one victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.”
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds.
“The CP, while commending the officers’ exceptional display of gallantry and dedication to duty, charged officers to sustain the tempo. He further urged members of the public with useful information on suspected criminal activities to report to the nearest police station promptly.”
