October 25, (THEWILL) – The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), the branch of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has suspended its indefinite strike.
The union, on October 7, 2024, embarked on an indefinite strike to demand improved working conditions and resources.
Com. Salih Aledeh, Secretary of the Union said the suspension, which is for one month, follows a constructive meeting with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Ribadu, who recognised the essential role of NAFDAC in maintaining national security and public health, assured the union’s representatives that he would expedite the approval process for their demands and collaborate closely with the relevant authorities to provide the necessary support.
Com. Aledeh expressed gratitude to Ribadu for his intervention and commitment to resolving their concerns.
“NAFDAC staff hold him in high regard and are eager to see the positive outcomes of his promises. We appreciate the National Security Adviser’s understanding of NAFDAC’s importance in maintaining national security and public health. We look forward to seeing tangible progress on our demands and are committed to working with the management to ensure a harmonious work environment”, he said.
Aledeh further praised the dedication and patience of NAFDAC staff throughout the strike, reinforcing the union’s commitment to fostering a cooperative and productive working environment.
He directed all union members to resume work on Monday, October 28, 2024.
“The suspension of the strike, effective for one month, marks a hopeful step towards resolving the outstanding issues between NAFDAC management and its staff. The union remains optimistic about a fruitful collaboration with management and other stakeholders moving forward. This resolution is a positive sign for both NAFDAC’s staff and the broader public that relies on the agency’s critical services”, he added.
