August 27, (THEWILL) — The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has intensified its nationwide crackdown on hawkers and peddlers of unregistered, expired, and counterfeit medicines.
In a statement, the agency said raids carried out in Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja, and Asaba, identified as hotspots for illicit drug sales, led to the arrest of 15 suspects and the seizure of products worth over ₦110.9m.
The confiscated drugs include aphrodisiacs, oxytocins, narcotic analgesics such as tramadol and morphine, sex enhancement drugs, antibiotics, and painkillers.
NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, warned that offenders would face stiff sanctions, reiterating that the sale of medicines in unapproved locations remains banned.
“All offenders are currently in custody pending further investigation,” the statement said.
Adeyeye also appealed to Nigerians to shun drug hawkers, assuring that the clampdown would continue until violators are brought to justice.
