NAFDAC Nabs Man for Producing Fake Alcoholic Beverages in Lagos

May 09, (THEWILL) – The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has arrested one Mr. Madu Abuchi Simon for allegedly producing and selling adulterated and expired alcoholic beverages in Lagos.

NAFDAC disclosed this in a statement on its official X handle on Thursday, noting that the suspect was caught falsifying several popular liquor brands, including Hennessy, William Lawson, Baileys, Martell, St. Remy, and Jameson.

According to the agency, operatives seized over 100 cartons of assorted counterfeit alcoholic drinks valued at over N114 million. The outlet was subsequently sealed.

“A search of the premises revealed expired Amarula cream liqueur, empty branded bottles and cartons, stickers, stoves, buckets, cotton wool, and a purple-coloured chemical suspected to be used for cleaning and reusing bottles,” the statement read.

NAFDAC added that the suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended.

The agency advised consumers to patronise only reputable vendors and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding public health.
