March 01, (THEWILL) – The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), has appointed Dr Mustapha Muhammad Ali as its new Secretary.
A statement by the Commission’s Principal Information Officer, Shafii Sani Mohammed, said the appointment follows the voluntary resignation of Dr Abdullahi Rabi’u Kontagora and the need to fill the position, which Alhaji Alidu Shutti had been occupying in an acting capacity.
According to the statement, Ali’s appointment was endorsed by the fifth Board of the Commission after its meeting on February 26, 2025, in accordance with Section 8 of the NAHCON Establishment Act (2006). He met all the requirements advertised by the Commission on its website and other media channels.
His experience as the former Executive Secretary of the Borno State Pilgrims Board was an added advantage for his appointment.
Born in Yerwa, Borno State, Ali will serve as Secretary for a term of four years, renewable after the first tenure. He holds a Doctorate and Master’s degree in Islamic Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Administration, a Diploma in Computer Application and Internet, and an Executive Life Manager Certificate, among other qualifications.
Ali attended the University of Maiduguri, Bayero University Kano, and the University College for Islamic Call in Tripoli, Libya, where he excelled in his field of studies. Other institutions he attended include the Administrative Staff College in Lagos, Yaysib Computer Institute, and Elkanemi College of Islamic Theology in Maiduguri, to mention a few.
His working experience spans decades and includes roles such as Director of the Centre for Kanuri Ajami and Qur’anic Studies at Borno State University; Chairman of the Caretaker Management Committee, Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Borno State; and Deputy Provost of Muhammad Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies in Maiduguri, Borno State.
As the new Secretary of the Commission, Ali’s responsibilities will include keeping records, conducting correspondence, and serving as Secretary at all meetings of the Commission. These duties will also involve ensuring effective reporting of the Commission’s activities to relevant authorities, maintaining the register of licensed Hajj operators, facilitating the publication of the Commission’s regulations, and coordinating the Commission’s performance standards.
“It is expected that Dr Ali’s appointment will bring additional value to the Commission. His tenure commences the day he assumes office,” the statement added.
