September 29, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the supply of refined petroleum products nationwide, following a meeting of the Steering Committee of the Domestic Crude Oil and Refined Products Sales in Local Currency Initiative.
The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, addressed concerns over an alleged suspension of the Naira-for-crude arrangement with Dangote Refinery, which government officials said has now been amicably resolved.
The committee also reviewed issues raised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) regarding the refinery.
In attendance were the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, who chairs the Technical Committee; as well as representatives of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Central Bank of Nigeria, Afreximbank, and Dangote Refinery.
The committee assured Nigerians that there will be no disruption in fuel supply.
Earlier, THEWILL reported that Dangote Refinery had suspended sales of petrol in naira after exhausting its crude-for-naira allocation. But the government stressed that the initiative remains in place and will continue as planned.
It also pledged to resolve outstanding disputes between PENGASSAN and the refinery in good faith.
The Federal Government restated its commitment to energy security, consumer protection, and stability in the domestic petroleum market.
