July 24, (THEWILL) — The Senate and House of Representatives have commenced their annual recess, adjourning plenary sessions until September 23, 2025.
The two chambers of the National Assembly began the break following the adoption of separate motions at Thursday’s plenary sessions.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio formally announced the adjournment during the Senate’s closing session, while Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, made a similar declaration in the lower chamber.
The recess, a routine part of the National Assembly’s legislative calendar, allows lawmakers to focus on constituency engagements, oversight responsibilities, and other official duties.
Abbas urged lawmakers to use the period to reconnect with their constituents, address pressing local issues, and monitor ongoing federal projects in their areas.
“This recess is not a vacation but an opportunity to strengthen our bond with the people we serve and ensure effective representation,” he said.
The adjournment follows a busy legislative session that included the approval of a $347 million loan for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and telecom access project, as well as tributes to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
