December 21, (THEWILL) – A House of Representatives member for Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency, Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke has doled out the sum of N20m as Xmas gift to his constituents in Akwa Ibom state.
This is as he pledged the commitment of his constituency to the completion agenda of the sitting Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
Luke, who is the chairman House Committee on Judiciary, announced the donation on Tuesday at a stakeholders meeting/ End of the year get-together of the constituency which was held at Senator Effiong Bob’s house, Nsit Ubium local government area of the state.
The former speaker of the State House of Assembly said he was moved to make the cash donation because the harsh economic realities occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic has left many of his constituents struggling to make ends meet.
“For today, we will drop the sum of N20 million naira. Each ward will go with 500,000 naira. I know that COVID-19 has affected the household income of every Nigerian. And so the only thing we can do is in our little way, we have to take a little of what God has given us to bless each and every one of us.
“This is not a proceed from any constituency project. This is not the money from the federal government to come and do empowerment. It is my personal savings with my family. It is savings from what God has given to me to come and share with you” Luke said
The lawmaker who also declared support for the completion agenda of the state Governor lauded the PDP-led administration in the state for the rehabilitation of Etinan General Hospital, construction of Uyo-Etinan road and other roads in the Federal Constituency
“I want to stand on behalf of you to appreciate the leader of this party, Udom Emmanuel for his infrastructural renaissance in the federal constituency. When I speak,I speak with facts and figures.
“Last weekend, I had the opportunity to drive from Ikot Oku Ikono through Ekom Iman junction, and I was heading towards the local government. I saw the spate of work by Julius Berger in the Uyo, Etinan, Eket road. I appreciate the governor for that”, he said.
Speaking at the occasion, Senator Effiong Bob described the meeting as first of its kind in the Federal Constituency and commended Mr Luke for his ability to bring the three Local Government Areas to one place to give back during the Christmas period.
He declared that the Constituency is fully in support of the completion agenda of governor Udom Emmanuel adding that at the appropriate time the Federal Constituency will speak in one voice.
He charged members of the constituency to take advantage of the e-registration of the PDP and the continuous voter registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The meeting had in attendance serving members of the State House of Assembly from the Federal Constituency, Mr Aniefiok Dennis, Mr Ifiok Udoh and Mr Otobong Bob, Chairmen of the councils, Mr Eric Akpan, Arc. Iniobong Orok, Party bigwigs Obong Paul Ekpo, Prof Nseabasi Akpan, Isantim Kenneth, former Speaker Anietie Etuk, Chapter Chairmen from the three Local Government Areas, Ward Executives and others.
