October 03, (THEWILL) — The National Assembly has tightened security around the office of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, restricting access to the area exclusively to lawmakers.
The new measure, effective immediately, was announced in a memo dated October 2 and signed by the Sergeant-at-Arms, Etido Ekpo.
According to the directive, the corridor linking the White House lobby to the Senate President’s office will now be accessible only to senators and members of the House of Representatives.
Aides, personal assistants, and all non-legislative staff are barred from using the passage.
The restriction, officials said, is part of efforts to maintain security and order within the National Assembly complex as lawmakers prepare to resume plenary on October 7 after a recess of more than two months.
Ekpo urged senators to properly brief their aides and personal staff on the new arrangement to ensure compliance.
