June 26 (THEWILL) — The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, on Thursday, defeated the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) 3-1 in a novelty football match held at the Uyo Township Stadium as part of activities marking the 2026 NBA Week.

Played in a lively and competitive atmosphere, the encounter attracted members of both professional bodies and football enthusiasts, with the journalists producing a dominant display to claim a convincing victory over their legal counterparts.

The NUJ side controlled much of the game, creating and converting scoring opportunities to secure the 3-1 win despite spirited resistance from the NBA team.

Speaking after the match, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, commended the players for their discipline, resilience and teamwork, describing the victory as a reflection of the unity and determination within the union.

He said the players represented the NUJ with dignity and professionalism, while applauding the Nigerian Bar Association for providing worthy opposition in a match that promoted friendship and healthy competition.

John noted that beyond the result, the novelty match achieved its objective of strengthening relationships between members of the media and the legal profession.

Although the NBA team fought to reduce the deficit, the journalists maintained their dominance with coordinated attacking play and disciplined defending to see out the contest.

The novelty football match was one of the recreational events organised as part of the 2026 NBA Week, aimed at fostering camaraderie, wellness and stronger inter-professional collaboration among stakeholders in Akwa Ibom State.
