December 01, (THEWILL) – Workers’ unions under the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), to confirm Captain Chris Ona Najomo as the substantive Director-General of Civil Aviation.
The appeal was made in a communiqué issued after an extraordinary meeting of the Joint Action Congress of NCAA unions.
The meeting, held on November 23 at the NCAA Annex, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, included representatives from the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, the National Union of Air Transport Employees, the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers.
The communiqué, signed by union leaders including NUATE Chairman Comrade Jakada Anthony, ATSSSAN Chairman Comrade Remi Aderinkomi, ANAP Chairman Comrade Ben Godwin, and NAAPE Chairman Comrade Diepreye Saburugha, expressed confidence in Capt. Najomo’s leadership.
It highlighted the transformation within the NCAA since his assumption as Acting Director-General 10 months ago.
The unions lauded Capt. Najomo for fostering a culture of dignity and value for NCAA’s workforce, aligning with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
They noted that his leadership has driven notable achievements in the aviation industry, in line with Minister Keyamo’s five-point agenda for the sector.
“Capt. Najomo’s leadership has unlocked significant milestones across the aviation industry, which are reflective of the current administration’s vision for progress and development,” the communiqué stated.
The unions also commended stakeholders in Nigeria and abroad for acknowledging the positive changes under Capt. Najomo’s tenure. According to the JAC, feedback from key industry players demonstrates widespread support for his confirmation as substantive DGCA.
“The evaluation of Capt. Najomo’s performance aligns with President Tinubu’s quality policy coordination and delivery standards for heads of government agencies. Aviation stakeholders have consistently applauded his responsible and pragmatic approach to repositioning the NCAA,” the unions noted.
The communiqué urged the Federal Government to consider the widespread endorsements from aviation stakeholders as evidence of Capt. Najomo’s competence and commitment to advancing the sector.
