May 29 (THEWILL) — The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected alleged endorsement lists circulating in some states, declaring that no such lists were approved by its national leadership and insisting that all qualified aspirants would be allowed to participate in transparent and fair primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party described the purported lists as unofficial, unauthorised, and inconsistent with its democratic principles, warning members and stakeholders against relying on the documents.
In a statement issued on Friday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Osa Director, the NDC said several aspirants who legitimately purchased the party’s Expression of Interest Forms were excluded from the alleged endorsement lists currently being circulated.
“We wish to state categorically that such lists do not represent the position of the party and do not contain the names of several aspirants who officially purchased the party’s Expression of Interest Forms,” the statement read.
The party stressed that its national leadership neither approved nor had knowledge of any endorsement list, maintaining that the circulating documents were not recognised by the party.
“The national leadership of the NDC is not aware of any such endorsement lists, nor has any list been authorised or approved by the party leadership,” the statement added.
The clarification follows growing speculation and internal discussions in some states over alleged preferred aspirants ahead of the party’s primaries.
The NDC consequently directed its State Executive Committees, party members, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard the lists entirely, warning that attempts to impose candidates outside laid-down democratic procedures would not be tolerated.
According to the party, all aspirants who duly obtained Expression of Interest Forms and successfully passed the screening process would be allowed to participate in the primaries without discrimination.
The party further explained that its primaries would be conducted either through consensus arrangements where applicable or by direct elections, in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution and democratic principles.
The NDC reiterated its commitment to transparency, fairness, and inclusiveness in the conduct of its internal processes, assuring members that every qualified aspirant would be given a level playing field.
