January 12, (THEWILL) — The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has approved a second liquidation dividend of ₦24.3 billion for depositors of the defunct Heritage Bank Plc, whose balances exceeded the ₦5 million insured limit.
The payout follows the revocation of the bank’s operating licence and NDIC’s appointment as liquidator, in line with the NDIC Act. According to the corporation, the funds were sourced from proceeds of asset sales and loan recoveries.
The NDIC stated that the dividend represents an additional reimbursement after insured deposits had been fully settled, noting that liquidation dividends are paid periodically as recoveries are made and expenses are accounted for.
Eligible depositors are those who have received their insured sums and have had their claims verified. The corporation advised affected customers to contact NDIC offices or follow official channels for payment details.
NDIC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency in the liquidation process, adding that further dividends may be declared as more assets are realised. It also urged the public to maintain confidence in Nigeria’s banking system, describing deposit insurance as a key safety net for depositors.
