August 04, (THEWILL) — Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Bayelsa State have arrested a suspected notorious drug dealer, Chief Emeka Opara, 52, and his sales assistant, Chidinma Onuoha, 25, following a successful undercover operation.
The arrest was made on Friday, August 1, 2025, at about 1:00 p.m., after NDLEA agents conducted coordinated raids on the suspect’s residence and shop.
A total of 41,705 capsules of tramadol and other psychotropic substances, including Molly, diazepam, codeine, swinol, and pentazocine, were recovered.
The total weight of the seized drugs was 29.127 kilograms, with an estimated street value running into millions of naira.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SN Daniel Howells Obah, and made available to journalists in Yenagoa.
According to the NDLEA, the arrest is considered a significant breakthrough, as Opara is believed to be a key supplier of illicit drugs to students of the state-owned Niger Delta University, Amassoma.
Commenting on the development, the NDLEA State Commander, Kanu S. Chukwuemeka, CN, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to intensifying the war against drug abuse.
He called on stakeholders, including the Niger Delta University and the Bayelsa State Government, to adopt the NDLEA’s Integrity Drug Test initiative for early detection, treatment, and prevention of substance abuse.
Chukwuemeka emphasised that the agency remains resolute in dismantling drug supply networks and safeguarding communities from the adverse effects of narcotics.
