February 19, (THEWILL) – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Bayelsa State Command, has launched a five-day War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaign in Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, as part of efforts to combat drug abuse and its consequences.
The campaign, which commenced on February 18, 2025, was officially flagged off by the NDLEA State Commander, Kanu Chukwuemeka, CN, under the theme: “Safer Communities Without Illicit Drugs.”
According to a statement signed by Obah Howells, Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA, Bayelsa Command, the first day of the sensitisation programme featured anti-drug abuse lectures at Government Secondary School, Amassoma, and Community Secondary School, Amassoma.
Resource persons at the event included Francis Chia, PhD, and ACN Godwin Erepa, who engaged students and local security groups, including members of the Amassoma Vigilante Group and the Boy Scout.
The initiative received full backing from Engr. Godknows Alamieyeseigha, the State Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission Bayelsa, who hails from Amassoma.
Alamieyeseigha expressed concern over the rising rate of drug abuse among youths, stressing the need for sustained intervention to curb the menace.
