February 03, (THEWILL) — The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, recording a 71.63 percent pass rate for candidates who obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim-Wushishi, announced the release on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, during a news conference at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
He noted that the results were released exactly 52 days after the last written paper, which he described as a testament to the council’s commitment to efficiency and credibility.
According to the Registrar, 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 51,823 males and 45,156 females.
Of this number, 95,160 candidates actually sat for the exercise. A breakdown of the core subjects showed that 73,167 candidates (78.32 percent) obtained a credit and above in English Language, while 85,256 candidates (91.35 percent) achieved a credit and above in Mathematics.
The results further revealed that 68,166 candidates (71.63 percent) secured five credits and above including English and Mathematics.
Meanwhile, 82,082 candidates (86.26 percent) obtained five credits and above irrespective of the two core subjects.
The examination, which covered 16 subjects, was conducted between November 26 and December 13, 2025.
On the issue of examination malpractice, Prof. Ibrahim-Wushishi disclosed that 9,016 candidates were booked for various offenses, marking a 31.7 percent increase from the 6,160 cases recorded in 2024.
He stated that four examination centers have been recommended for de-recognition due to “whole-center” malpractice, and five supervisors have been recommended for blacklisting for aiding and abetting cheating.
The Registrar advised candidates to access their results on the official NECO website using their examination registration numbers.
He also used the occasion to launch the 2026 Automated Staff Posting Calendar (APC), explaining that the council has digitalized the process to eliminate favoritism and ensure transparency. Staff can now check their posting status for the 2026 assignments online via the council’s specialized portal.
