BEVERLY HILLS, February 13, (THEWILL) – The Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje has declared that never again will he have a political associate like his predecessor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Before their relationship turned sour, both Ganduje and Kwankwaso have been close allies so much so that the latter chose the former as his deputy when he returned to power in 2011 after eight years when they first governed Kano State.
But addressing select journalists in his office in Kano at the weekend, the incumbent Kano Governor asserted that he and his predecessor cannot be in the same political camp for the rest of their lives.
Admitting that the relationship between him and his predecessor had not been so smooth, Ganduje however stated that there is nothing wrong with mending fences with his longtime political ally.
“I cannot have a political associate like him for the rest of my like him; he too can’t have an associate like me, for the rest of his life.”
“What is wrong in reconciling with a long time friend and political ally? After all, we were the best of political allies in the history of Nigerian politics,” he said.
The Governor further stated that he was in support of efforts to end “whatever misunderstandings” that existed between him and his predecessor.
Moving on to the medical vacation of President Muhammadu Buhari, he stated that governors need not bother the country’s number one citizen with telephone calls because he deserves a good rest.
According to him, “We pray for the president to be back home safely. His sickness was not an agenda and could not also be an agenda, so you see the issue is.
“I know Nigeria is a big country with multi-religious, multi ethnic, multi everything that you can think about, so is easy to politicise issues that are not supposed to be politicised.
“What we believe is that everybody can get sick. So you want to us to start calling him while he is sick, he needs some rest. If he is to talk with every governor, why is he there to get treatment and rest?
“People seize the opportunity to talk rubbish. Some are not wishing him well, so they are expressing their mind that he is sick, he is this and he is that. But he wrote formally that he would go for a vacation and medical treatment.
“So what kind of information are we looking more than that?” Ganduje asked.
