July 15, (THEWILL) – The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, has said that the government is handing over to the people a quality flyover with assured lifespan of at least 50 years.
The Commissioner gave the assurance on Thursday in Uyo where he supervised the installation of streetlights and other facilities at the Ikot Oku Ikono Flyover as part of preparations ahead of commissioning on Friday.
He also received various visiting teams, including government officials, the host communities, and the media.
He said that the flyover is goodnews, as it marks an end to the loss of lives hitherto experienced at that junction, and recent stress of road users who have been inconvenienced by the closure of that route.
He further promised that his ministry and the contracting firm will ensure that all the facilities and installations necessary for the safety and aesthetic value of the flyover are put in place in line with the specification of the project, and for the benefit of the road users.
He added: “This project was initiated two years ago, and if you remove the COVID-19 year you will see that this work has been done within just a year.
“What we are doing is to commission the flyover to allow for free flow of traffic and we assure that we are giving Akwa Ibom people a quality flyover with a warranty of at least 50years lifespan.”
The Commissioner also said that he appreciates the people for their patience during the construction period which lasted beyond the period estimated.
