May 15, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian equities market closed the week on a bearish note on Friday, as broad-based sell pressures across key counters dragged major market indicators lower.
Market capitalisation declined from ₦161.669 trillion at the opening of the session to ₦160.443 trillion at the close, representing a loss of about ₦1.226 trillion. Similarly, the All-Share Index (ASI) fell from 252,243.11 points to 250,330.92 points, reflecting a weak end to an otherwise volatile trading week.
Despite the overall downturn, market breadth remained positive as 47 equities recorded gains against 28 losers, indicating selective buying interest in mid- and low-cap stocks.

TRANSEXPR increased by 9.97 percent, (rising from ₦6.42 to ₦7.06).

Top Decliners
ZICHIS fell by 9.97 percent, (declining from ₦32.69 to ₦29.43).
FTNCOCOA shed 9.95 percent, (easing from ₦9.95 to ₦8.96).

LIVINGTRUST declined by 9.88 percent, (moving from ₦4.25 to ₦3.83).

Meanwhile, several large-cap stocks closed flat during the session, including Dangote Cement, Custodian Investment, Julius Berger Nigeria, International Breweries, BUA Foods, and Nestlé Nigeria, amongst others.
The session reflected a late-week profit-taking pattern, particularly in previously active small-cap stocks, which outweighed gains recorded in select counters. Although buying interest persisted in parts of the market, especially among retail-driven stocks, it was insufficient to offset broader sell pressure.
