May 25 (THEWILL) — The Nigerian stock market sustained its bullish momentum on Monday, as renewed buying interest in large-cap and mid-tier stocks pushed the Nigerian Exchange higher, with market capitalisation gaining ₦905 billion.

At the close of trading, the market capitalisation advanced from ₦160.077 trillion to ₦160.982 trillion, while the All-Share Index (ASI) rose by 1,412.65 basis points to close at 251,125.02 from the previous 249,712.37.

Investor sentiment remained broadly positive during the session, as the market recorded 35 gainers against 32 losers, reflecting sustained appetite for equities despite pockets of profit-taking across select counters.

The rally was largely supported by strong performances in telecommunications, insurance, aviation, and investment stocks.

Top Gainers

1. Airtel Africa leading the gainers’ chart appreciating by 10.00 percent (from ₦3,323.40 to ₦3,655.70).

2 INTENEGINS up 9.68 percent (from ₦3.41 to ₦3.74).

3. SOVRENINS gained 9.65 percent (from ₦2.28 to ₦2.50).

4. CAVERTON advanced 9.63 percent (from ₦6.75 to ₦7.40).

5. VFDGROUP rose 9.55 percent (from ₦9.95 to ₦10.90).

Top Decliners

1. MCNICHOLS fell 10.00 percent (from ₦8.00 to ₦7.20).
2. TIP declined 9.91 percent (from ₦33.80 to ₦30.45).
3. LEARNAFRCA shed 9.69 percent (from ₦12.90 to ₦11.65).
4. ZICHIS dropped 7.93 percent (from ₦33.65 to ₦30.98).
5. MAYBAKER lost 6.60 percent (from ₦50.00 to ₦46.70).

Meanwhile, several heavyweight counters including Dangote Cement, Lafarge Africa, Seplat Energy, Julius Berger Nigeria, BUA Foods and Dangote Sugar Refinery closed flat during the session.

Analysts said the positive close reflects continued bargain hunting and renewed positioning in fundamentally strong stocks as investors react to improving macroeconomic sentiment and expectations surrounding corporate earnings and policy direction.
