December 08, (THEWILL) — The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, says it has not received any official communication confirming reports that 100 of the abducted Agwara school children have been released.
Niger State CAN Chairman, Bishop Bulus Yohanne, made the clarification following media claims suggesting that a portion of the kidnapped students had regained freedom.
Some outlets (not THEWILL) reported on Sunday that the Federal Government had secured the release of 100 out of the 265 pupils abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, on November 21, 2025.
Reacting to the unverified reports, Bishop Yohanne expressed cautious optimism.
Speaking through his media aide, Daniel Atori, he said, “It will be a thing of joy if some of our children have been released. We have been praying and waiting for their return. If it is true, then it is cheering news.”
He however stressed that CAN had yet to receive any formal notification.
“We are not officially aware and have not been duly informed. We hope and pray it’s true, and we look forward to the release of the remaining children,” he added.
