January 07, (THEWILL) — Nigeria attracted nearly $14 billion in foreign capital inflows within the first nine months of 2025, as renewed investor confidence driven by ongoing economic reforms lifted foreign participation above levels recorded in the full year 2024, the Federal Government has said.

Data from the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment show that the inflows were largely dominated by foreign portfolio investment (FPI), which accounted for about $12.99 billion, reflecting strong activity in Nigeria’s equity and fixed-income markets.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) also recorded a sharp improvement, rising by about 700 percent quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter and reaching approximately $936 million year-to-date.

The ministry attributed the surge in capital inflows to a series of reforms implemented under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, including foreign exchange liberalisation, fuel subsidy removal, tighter monetary policy, and enhanced investor engagement.

These measures, it said, have improved market transparency, reduced policy uncertainty, and strengthened confidence among domestic and foreign investors.

Officials noted that the reforms helped reposition Nigeria as an attractive destination for capital, with the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) ranking among the world’s top-performing stock markets in 2025, further supporting portfolio inflows.

Beyond financial market activity, the government also highlighted progress in translating investment commitments into real economic projects.

According to the ministry, four priority investments valued at $13.7 billion advanced during the year, supported by targeted trade missions, investor roadshows, and more structured deal-making processes.

While portfolio inflows accounted for the bulk of capital attracted, the government expressed optimism that sustained reforms and policy consistency would help deepen long-term foreign direct investment, supporting economic growth, job creation, and broader capital market development.
