January 23, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria College of Accountancy, a professional training arm of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, is set to graduate over 5,600 students during a convocation ceremony to be held on Saturday, to bring the total number of its graduates since its inception in 1993/94, to 60,000.
In a pre-convocation chat with the press at the Kwall (near Jos) headquarters of the institution, the Director General of the College, Dr Friday Effiong Akpan, disclosed that the event will also feature a presentation of special honours to twelve of the graduates, who distinguished themselves in the course of the Study, adding that it is a new Stool of Fame that is being instituted for the first time by the institution.
Akpan also disclosed that in the over thirty years of its history, the College has maintained a tradition of high professional grounding and standards and to that extent invests robustly in the policy and programme of conversion for aspiring accountants with backgrounds allied to accounting during which process such students are exposed to the principles, theories and ethical taboos of public accounting.
According to Akpan, the Nigeria College of Accountancy is not unique and international because its proprietor, ANAN, subscribes to and is a member of the International Federation of Accounting Professionals, but because the institution maintains the progressive and outward-looking policy of admitting students with the requisite qualifications from all over the world, just as a delegation from Senegal recently came and under-studied its curriculum and programmes with intent and plan to replicate the institution towards improving the quality of accounting practice in their clime.
Legally enabled by the ANAN Act No 76 of 1993, the College has over time built a reputation of pursuing professional excellence through accounting education and training, and has remained globally pivotal in advancing the science of accountancy.
According to the College DG, Dr Friday Effiong Akpan, “the eleventh convocation ceremony marks the production of another set of skilled and knowledgeable professional accountants who will continue to push further the frontiers of the new dispensational move in the development of accountancy practice in Nigeria and beyond.”
Beginning with a lecture tomorrow, the graduation exercise which Akpan emphasised is different from an induction ceremony which ushers in members into professional practice, is expected to host a cream of dignitaries, with former Bayelsa State governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, as chairman of the occasion.
