February 10, (THEWILL) — The Consulate General of Nigeria in Johannesburg has condemned in the strongest terms the killing of one of its nationals, Emeka Clement Uzor, by a group led by Xolani Khumalo at Windsor East, Randburg, South Africa, on February 8, 2026.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Consulate said the incident has caused deep shock and pain to the family, the Nigerian community, and diplomatic missions in South Africa. It warned against attempts to unfairly generalise Nigerians in the country as criminals, emphasising that well-meaning Nigerians should not be tagged for the actions of a few.
The statement also highlighted ongoing investigations by South African authorities, assuring that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
“Our position is that no matter what the allegations are, there are processes and steps to justice. All should be presumed innocent and granted fair hearing in a court of law. No one should take laws into their own hands. We condemn all forms of extrajudicial killings. All lives matter. This includes Nigerians”, the Consulate said.
While investigations continue, Nigerians in South Africa were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant as they go about their daily lives.
The Consulate extended its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, praying for his soul to rest in peace, while reiterating its mandate to oversee the welfare and fair treatment of all Nigerians in the country.
