April 30, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Police Force has resumed the issuance of tinted glass permits to vehicle owners nationwide.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the directive was approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The use of tinted windows in Nigeria has long been controversial, with law enforcement agencies struggling to differentiate between legitimate users and criminals who exploit tinted vehicles for unlawful activities such as kidnappings, armed robberies, and the notorious “one-chance” scams.
To address these concerns, Adejobi said the Police have introduced a fully digitised permit system accessible via [https://possap.gov.ng](https://possap.gov.ng). The new system promises improved transparency, efficiency, and security, with features such as QR-coded digital permits and identity verification through the National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN).
Adejobi said, “This initiative is not just about regulation; it’s about protection—both for the public and for law enforcement.
“It creates a structured process for legitimate users while closing the gaps previously exploited by criminals.”
He added that individuals with valid reasons, including medical conditions or security-related duties, can now apply and receive their digital permits within 72 hours.
A 30-day grace period, beginning May 1, 2025, has been introduced to allow vehicle owners to comply with the new directive. Full enforcement will commence once the grace period expires.
